At Scotts Valley Library now through Jan. 2
Five years after the devastating CZU Lightning Complex Fire tore through the Santa Cruz Mountains, Boulder Creek artists Duane and Annie Armstrong are sharing their art at an exhibit at the Scotts Valley Library.
The husband-and-wife duo, both highly experienced and celebrated oil painters, lost many of their original works when the August 2020 wildfire swept through the region. Among the casualties were numerous beautiful oil paintings that represented years of creative work and artistic exploration.
Duane Armstrong's paintings are known for their evocative exploration of atmosphere and mood through abstraction and landscape. His work captures the essence of place and feeling, inviting viewers into contemplative spaces where light, color, and form merge into emotional experiences. Annie Armstrong, meanwhile, creates luminous, larger-than-life close-ups of flowers, shells, and butterflies that seem to glow from within, revealing the intricate beauty of the natural world in stunning detail.
The Scotts Valley Library Friends chapter of the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Library are thrilled to present a collection of high-quality giclée prints of the Armstrong's original oil paintings, offering the community an opportunity to experience the breadth and beauty of their work. The exhibition runs now through January 2, 2026.
Visitors can view the Armstrong collection at the Scotts Valley Library, located at 251 Kings Village Road in Scotts Valley. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed on Sundays.
